Everyone is stressed because of this Covid 19 pandemic. All off the notifications and news items are not only discouraging, but in many instances frustrating and devastating as well. The number of infected, and those have died are highlighted however persons who have recovered tend to remain in the shadows. At this point, we are diving into a big unknown.

Scientists and Researchers are working relentlessly but so far have not come up with an exact date for production of a viable vaccine. They could have given a tentative time so that people could relieve their pain and have some kind of psychological relief. People are talking about Spanish Influenza which came and ran its course some hundred years ago.

With little knowledge, people are speculating and drawing their own conclusions. Hindu Priests/ Christian Fathers are not constantly monitoring the situation but are spontaneously reacting according to their convictions.

So, all of the daily updates and measures imposed in response to the situation are making people more vulnerable towards domestic violence, more frustrated and is even causing some depression.

On the contrary, here is some advice which may benefit you and give some encouragement as well hopefully assist you in facing the challenging times ahead.

1) Starting something new

Starting something new comes with uncertainty but definitely a positive outcome is the reward for consistency. Maybe you have been complaining for a long time that you did not have enough free time. I would have learned to play the guitar or piano or any. Playing an instrument helps to reduce stress and builds confidence. All of us have a certain instrument that we’ve always wanted to play. Besides taking classes, you can learn on your own by reading books and watching instructional videos online. There are endless opportunities from YouTube and if one is dedicated, you can learn with self -help. The more you engage in new things, the less you are likely to be frustrated. After a week or so, you will be motivated to share such ideas with your near and dear ones which will definitely help to reduce stress levels. Practice makes progress. The better you feel about your skills, the more you can enjoy each moment of the day.

It is universal problem not starting new things though we have been thinking about them for ages. But, before getting started make sure this is something you want to do and that you feel it plays to your strengths and your enjoyment. Please remember that starting and learning something new demands that you try, try, and try again.

2) Keeping away from mobile/cell phone:

As per the Global System for Mobile Communications (GsMA) there are 5.185 billion unique mobile subscribers in this planet. Mobile phones communicate with base stations using radiofrequency (RF) radiation. If RF radiation is high enough, it has a ‘thermal’ effect, which means it raises body temperature. There are concerns that the maximum uses of mobile phones where the RF radiation emitted by mobile phones could cause health problems. Needless to say, Mobile or cellular phones are now an integral part of human life which cannot be denied. However, it is not easy to keep distance from mobile phones but still you can make a schedule for limiting its usages. Most of us check our phone once our eyes are open even from our very beds. For instance, you can try at first not checking notification on Sunday until 10 am. Gradually, you can increase the time limit on your own but, you should think if/you use mobile/laptop for unnecessary or misinformation, that it is likely exerting undue influence on your life.

3) Enriching Mindful activities:

Mindfulness is being aware in each and every moment as far as possible. When you are trying to be mindful each action, word, and thought are conscious. Being mindful means taking responsibility for what we are doing and if it is not the experience we want, we change it.

a) Painting/Sketching : Painting/Sketching aren’t just for children; it’s basically for everyone as it creates a state of mind that greatly improves focus. Do not worry as it is not important that it be a masterpiece. Every painting that you do is special when you do it mindfully (may be with the help of your children for fun). It also helps you to use your senses, express emotion, explore processes and outcomes, explore color, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences. A positive surprise is that the more analytical left-brains can be stimulated and nurture their creative growth by practicing painting/sketching as well. Practice and focus are two skills inherent in left-brain individuals. Allow these people to learn creative skills at their own pace.

b) Mindfulness Meditation: When we practice mindfulness meditation, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future. Meditation practice couldn’t be simpler: take a good seat, pay attention to the breath, and when your attention wanders, return.

Meditation practice couldn’t be simpler: take a good seat, pay attention to the breath, and when your attention wanders, return. This is general thinking indeed. You may find countless tricks of doing this meditation. However, every task we perform in a day—be it brushing our teeth, eating lunch, talking with friends or exercising with undivided attention i.e, mindfulness.

Unlike classical meditation, mindfulness meditation (a kind of self realization) can be done anytime and anywhere.
